Cid Thermionic Gun System*
نویسنده
چکیده
A new high-current thermionic gun has been installed on the CID injector at SLAC and brought into operation. The gun and pulser system generate three nanosecond pulses of about six amps peak which, when bunched in the subharmonic buncher system, produce in excess of 1011 electrons in a single S-band accelerated bunch. Preliminary operation of the gun is described, and details of the avalanche cathode drive pulser are presented. INTRODUCTION The Collider Injector (CID) has operated successfully accelerating 10 11 electrons in a single S band bunch to 35 MeV. R. F. Linac-Beam Characterizations at 600 MeV Using Optical Transition Radiation Diagnostics
Selected optical diagnostics stations were upgraded in anticipation of low-emittance, bright electron beams from a thermionic rf gun or a photoelectric rf gun on the Advanced Photon Source (APS) injector linac. The upgrades include the installation of optical transition radiation (OTR) screens, transport lines, and cameras for use in transverse beam size measurements and longitudinal profile me...
متن کاملOperation of the Aps Rf Gun
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) has a thermioniccathode rf gun system capable of providing beam to the APS linac. The gun system consists of a 1.6-cell thermionic-cathode rf gun, a fast kicker for beam current control, and an alpha magnet for bunch compression and injection into the APS linac line. This system is intended for use both as an injector for positron creation, and as a first beam s...
متن کاملEffects of Electron-Gun and Laser Parameters on Collection Efficiency and Packet Duration in Ultrafast Electron Microscopy
Real-space imaging of full-morphological, angstrom-scale structural dynamics occurring on the femtosecond (fs) timescale is possible with ultrafast electron microscopy (UEM) via the stroboscopic pump-probe methodology enabled by interfacing an otherwise standard TEM with a short-pulsed laser system [1-3]. The technology has matured to the point that commercial systems, such as the FEI Tecnai Fe...
متن کاملAn Injector for the CLIC Test Facility (CTF3)
The CLIC Test Facility (CTF3) is an intermediate step to demonstrate the technical feasibility of the key concepts of the new RF power source for CLIC. CTF3 will use electron beams with an energy range adjustable from 170 MeV (3.5 A) to 380 MeV (with low current). The injector is based on a thermionic gun followed by a classical bunching system embedded in a long solenoidal field. As an alterna...
متن کاملCommunication: Effects of thermionic-gun parameters on operating modes in ultrafast electron microscopy
Ultrafast electron microscopes with thermionic guns and LaB6 sources can be operated in both the nanosecond, single-shot and femtosecond, single-electron modes. This has been demonstrated with conventional Wehnelt electrodes and absent any applied bias. Here, by conducting simulations using the General Particle Tracer code, we define the electron-gun parameter space within which various modes m...
